Amsterdam Polish Film Festival: Female Voices

Geschatte leestijd: 1 minuten

The 4th Amsterdam Polish Film Festival (31 October – 2 November 2025), organised by Polish Culture NL in collaboration with De Balie, shines a spotlight on a new generation of Polish female film directors.

Following in the footsteps of their predecessors (such as Agnieszka Holland whom we highlighted last year), women behind the camera in Poland kept bringing fresh perspectives, powerful storytelling, and bold experimentation to both national and international screens.

Their films explore the complexities of identity, womanhood, and social change in Poland and beyond. Some draw on the country’s rich tradition of poetic cinema, while others break boundaries, creating works that combine realism with fantasy or documentary with fiction.

What unites them is their courage to address urgent themes: the struggle for self-expression, the tension between tradition and modernity, and the search for freedom in contemporary societies. These films not only highlight the artistic talent of a new generation but also invite audiences to see Poland, Europe, and the world through the eyes of women determined to make their voices heard.
